VANS is a brand that is undoubtedly deeply rooted in skateboarding, yet since the company’s establishment in the late 60′s they had not made any official skateboard decks. The irony is a little surprising but that is all about to change. A skateboard division, Pacific Coast Highway, of Japanese apparel label Jackson Matisse took the matters into their own hands by creating the first ever skateboard deck with VANS. The deck is made at the same factory which produces the popular Zip Zinger skateboards and it features the same concave and shaping as the Zip Zinger. Delivery set for around mid July.
Minneapolis native Greg Gossel and Atlas in San Mateo, CA, have teamed up to create two limited edition decks. Gossel uses imagery from 20th century pop culture to create works that feature a raw, pulp sensibility. His decks for Atlas feature two larger than life characters, Iron Mike Tyson and Iron Man, illustrated with benday dots and featuring the bold typography and washed out colors that recall vintage comic strips. Both decks are available now at Atlas.
